What is a Teratogen?

Teratogens are substances, chemicals, or environmental agents that can cause birth defects. It is something that the mother may be exposed to during pregnancy. Things like prescribed medications, street drugs, alcohol use, or a disease that the mother may have could increase the chances for the baby to be born with a birth defect.
