What is Allopurinol?

Allopurinol (also known as Zyloprim) is used to treat gout. Gout occurs when there is an excessive amount of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid forms crystals in joins and tissue, causing inflammation and pain. It may take several months of Allopurinol to treat the gout.
