How do Babies Breathe in the Womb?

Babies that are still in the womb do not breathe. Their lungs are filled with amniotic fluid. They get oxygen and air from the umbilical cord which is attached to the placenta. Many expectant mothers experience their baby hiccuping which is just the babys way of practicing how to breathe.
