What is Selective Attention?

What is selective attention? Selective attention is when someone is able to block out what they don't want to hear and just hear what is important to them. Like a child, you can tell them to turn the TV down and they will just block you out and continue watching with the volume high, but you can say "Do you want some cookies" and they will respond right away with a "Yes"
