Pus is the whitish-yellow, yellow, or brown liquid that forms when an infection occurs. An accumulation of pus in an enclosed space, like under or around a tooth, is called an abscess. When it's under the skin, it's know as a pustule or pimple. Pus is made up of a protein-rich liquid and dead immune response cells, which are part of the body's response to the infection.
