What is Prothrombin?

Prothrombin is a special protein that helps your blood to clot and is manufactured in your liver. A special test called prothrombin time (PT) is used to measure how long it takes the prothrombin in your blood to merge and form a clot. A PT is used to help your doctor monitor the effectiveness of anticoagulant (such as aspirin or wafarin) therapy. You can find more information here: .
