Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) describes the sudden combustion (burning) of a human body seemingly for no reason. There have been 200 cases cited throughout the world in the past 300 years; however most cases lacked sufficient investigation and relied heavily on hearsay. In recent cases, there was external sources of heat present (usually cigarettes) and nothing was proven to be
. spontaneous. Theories range from ghosts or aliens causing them, to abnormal body gas or alcohol use. The strangeness that keeps everyone talking is that in most these cases, the upper body (or part of it) suffered severe burning with surrounding and/or lower limbs completely undamaged.
