There are many causes for deafness and loss of hearing. Hereditary or utero complications can cause someone to be born deaf, however 90% of deaf people were not born that way. Aging causes more than half adult cases, and deaf children either inherit or suffer deafness due to rubella, meningitis and prolonged bouts of high fever.
