The least restrictive environment (LRE) is a special education term meaning that the student should be educated in the environment that is the least different from the regular classroom as long as he can learn. LREs from most restrictive to least restrictive are: home, institution/residential, special campus school, neighborhood school in a separate classroom, partial inclusion, full inclusion.
