An adjunct professor is one who typically teaches part-time at a college, is not on the tenure track, and has no long-term prospects at the university. Typically, this professor was hired to fill in for someone else. An adjunct professor usually teaches a full course load (twelve hours or more), but is considered part-time because he or she has no other commitments within a department.
