What is Diploid?

Diploid is an entity, usually a cell, that has double the basic number of chromosomes for it's type. Humans are examples of beings with diploids as we receive a set of chromosomes from our mother and a set from our father that influence every thing from gender to susceptibility to certain illnesses.
