What is Antithesis?

Antithesis is a word derived from Latin, it is a noun and means one of the following things. It is a contrast of ideas that is constructed by a parallel arrangement of words. An example would be "The teacher said we would have early recess and kept us in". It is an opposition or contrast. The second option is actually the antithesis, or opposite.
