What is a Misplaced Modifier?

A misplaced modifier is a word that is supposed to be describing something but is placed in the wrong part of the sentence. For example, saying "I had to avoid the birds flying the plane" is incorrect. Rather, you should say, "Flying the plane yesterday, I had to avoid the birds".
