One ton is a measurement of weight, while a cubic yard is a measurement of volume. Since the weight of things varies, it is impossible to attach a weight to a cubic yard, unless we know what the cubic yard is. For example, a cubic yard of topsoil will weigh much more than a cubic yard of feathers!
